Mark Kellar // Emerging Abstract Artist

From the earliest moments I can remember, art has been an intrinsic part of my life. My journey has been one of constant exploration, embracing the unpredictable dance between chance and intentional expression. This experimental spirit is at the core of my work, where I find joy in the unexpected.

I primarily work in mixed media, with acrylics being my favored medium. My style is rooted in contemporary abstraction, heavily influenced by the works of Joan Mitchell, Gerhard Richter, and Jackson Pollock. My paintings are a dynamic interplay of chaos and harmony, where complexity often unveils simplicity in the most surprising ways. The natural beauty of the Salish Sea deeply inspires my work, as does the concept of capturing a fleeting moment in time through motion and abstraction.

Themes of time, space, intuitive expression, and the fluidity of water—whether oceans, rivers, or rain—are recurring elements in my art. Each piece is a reflection of my daily practice, driven by the process of creation rather than the final outcome. My focus lies in the act of painting itself, where the journey of expression holds more significance than the finished work.

As an emerging artist, I am at the beginning of my professional journey, with aspirations to exhibit my work and connect with galleries. My guiding principles are kindness, representation, and making art accessible to everyone, regardless of background.
